Team Spotlight: Kiko Iwamizu

Meet Kiko, Tech Director.

What brought you to CTA?

Honestly? The mission and the people. I wanted to work somewhere that’s solving real-world problems in a way that feels meaningful, and CTA checked that box immediately. The idea of using tech to empower communities and progressive organizations, and doing it alongside a team that’s collaborative and values-driven, was a huge draw. Plus, I love a good challenge, and CTA is full of them (the good kind!).

In 5 words or less, what do you do at CTA?

Turning complex problems into solutions.

What’s your proudest work accomplishment?

At CTA, my proudest accomplishment has been building our project’s tech team from the ground up. It’s not just about hiring talented engineers (though that’s a huge part of it), but about creating a healthy and supportive culture where people feel excited to tackle hard problems together. We’ve taken on some truly complex challenges, and seeing the team not only deliver but also have fun and grow in the process is something I’m deeply proud of. For me, it’s proof that when you combine strong technical vision with an environment where people can thrive, amazing things happen.

What’s something on your desk or your workspace that inspires you?

A teeny tiny origami crane. It’s my reminder that even the most complicated patterns start with one simple fold, and that patience and creativity go a long way. (Also, it looks way cooler than a sticky note that says “breathe.”)

What’s your favorite ice cream flavor?

Matcha green tea! Preferably the really earthy, not-too-sweet kind. It’s nostalgic for me and reminds me of Japan. If that’s not available, coffee is a close second.

Any hidden talents we should know about?

I love creating things by hand, especially knitting and sashiko embroidery! Lately, I’ve been working on a sweater vest for one of my friends at CTA. It’s my way of slowing down and finding balance outside of tech. My personal goal is to knit everyone on our team a beanie in their favorite color!
